My dad taught me the basics. I already knew them, it was just putting them into practice. But I wasn't all that amazed (although my Dad was...) that the driving test and the whole learning to drive thing has changed in the 23 years since he passed.
You may not actually be the one crashing. If you are driving on a single track lane and you come face to face with another car, you may skid on mud/wet road whatever. You can be the most cautious driver in the whole world, it doesn't you won't crash.
I doubt the millions of people that crash everyday are trying to crash. Its best to stick to what most tell you because in this day and age, with so many cars on the roads and so many idiots behind the wheel, crashes are to be very much expected.
I think you are being a little too quick to judge me mate. I'm not having a go. If you did that quote for a Corsa SRI in Plymouth then it won't take much guessing to what your first car can be. Thats a good quote. Insurance is a funny thing, hence why my mate is paying £1900 on an "L" Reg 1.2 Fiesta, yet I pay £1400 on a L plate 1.6 BMW.
WTF. Fully Comp isn't cheaper you doughnut.
I think you'll find 10k is the minimum you can out down for annual mileage. Sorry to sound harsh, but until I own a car and try to insure it yourself, I would keep shtum.
Anyway, if you want to make a forum just to make money, don't even bother. Those GoogleAds are a con imo. They make your site look cheap.
If I was you, I would join a PixelCar forum, brown nose everyone, do everything you can help, get bumped up to a Mod, then Global Mod, then Admin, then with your experience create your own.
If you want to join a decent PixelCar forum, I suggest. PixelCarStyle.com. - My username is Looney *embarrassed*
Things may be different in Holland mate. Over here, insurance is very expensive. Also, judging by those cars, I'm sure the required spec was to "Get me from A-to-B" I'm sure he doesnt want place B to be his grave.
Here is the CHEAPEST MX5 I can find. To insure it would be way out of his price range. Its rough. It needs a new roof. It needs an MOT. Its for hairdressers. Tristan owns one. - Enough reasons?
Jack, see my above post.
Edit:
You can still get the newest shape Fiesta for around the £1000-£1500 mark...
Example - OK, its sold. But they are a few more around the same price that are not sold, they just had rather no pictures, or crap pictures.
See my edit Jack. But to be honest, I would go for the Corsa, unless you can find a top spec, small engined Fiesta.
If you do down the Corsa route, I would go for the Corsa "C" as the easrly Corsa's have been molested by tw@'s. I dont know how much your Ped is worth, or how much you can earn till you pass, but a small engined Corsa C is available from £1250-£1500.
As your a 'friend' I'll let it go to you for a grand.
IIRC, mine is insurance group 10.
Mine is really cheap(ish) to insure as I practically live in the safest place in the whole world. An EX-- postcode is considered the safest by insurers.
I will probably sound like a broken record, with all the rest saying the same, but your car choice is Fiesta/Corsa/306/206, most small-ish cars really. If you know where to look, then you can always buy decent cars at a really low price.
The whole "Proton Vs. Sell up for a better car" is a no brainer in my opinion. Sell the Proton for sure. It will depreciate a lot quicker than most cars on the market and, lets face it, its a Proton.
