My dad taught me the basics. I already knew them, it was just putting them into practice. But I wasn't all that amazed (although my Dad was...) that the driving test and the whole learning to drive thing has changed in the 23 years since he passed.

Best just to stick to the instructor

I would of thought it would of been more as they probably think they can go fast because they do twice the limit everyday anyway.

I don't think LH has too worry about getting the money to pay for insurance. I guess he and others are on a specialist insurrance.

You may not actually be the one crashing. If you are driving on a single track lane and you come face to face with another car, you may skid on mud/wet road whatever. You can be the most cautious driver in the whole world, it doesn't you won't crash.

Quote from sam93 :I know you can't predict a crash, I mean that I will try my best not to crash.

I doubt the millions of people that crash everyday are trying to crash. Its best to stick to what most tell you because in this day and age, with so many cars on the roads and so many idiots behind the wheel, crashes are to be very much expected.

UPDATE:

My newest cheap quote is...

£1041.97

I understand Sam, mate I was gonna go on my dads trade insurance, but I had to be over 21

I think you are being a little too quick to judge me mate. I'm not having a go. If you did that quote for a Corsa SRI in Plymouth then it won't take much guessing to what your first car can be. Thats a good quote. Insurance is a funny thing, hence why my mate is paying £1900 on an "L" Reg 1.2 Fiesta, yet I pay £1400 on a L plate 1.6 BMW.

Sorry if you mis-understood me.

LOL!

Confused.com said Quinn Direct quoted me £1400. - That was my cheapest.

GoCompare(everywhere else).com said Quinn Direct quoted me @ £2,500. With my cheapest being eCar @ £2,400.

Quote from sam93 :People class Plymouth as a bad area but it isn't.

"People" being insurance companies I am guessing?

TBH, I highly doubt that with a Plymouth postcode, SRI Vauxhall and bodykit that it will come back at £1000. But, if you say so.

Which company was the quote with and what did you put down as a job.

Quote from sam93 :Comprehensive is cheaper then 3rd party, so put Comprehensive down. Also say that you are only using it for social use what will bring it down a bit more, and if you are using something like gocompare.com to see what insurance company is cheaper, put in where it asks for how much miles you will do over a year put around 2k, everyone knows you will do more but you are saving some money.

WTF. Fully Comp isn't cheaper you doughnut.
I think you'll find 10k is the minimum you can out down for annual mileage. Sorry to sound harsh, but until I own a car and try to insure it yourself, I would keep shtum.

Work is tiring

If you wanna make money out of it, or for it to at least work, you need to put a lot of effort into it.

You don't like porn? Odd boy.

Anyway, if you want to make a forum just to make money, don't even bother. Those GoogleAds are a con imo. They make your site look cheap.

If I was you, I would join a PixelCar forum, brown nose everyone, do everything you can help, get bumped up to a Mod, then Global Mod, then Admin, then with your experience create your own.

If you want to join a decent PixelCar forum, I suggest. PixelCarStyle.com. - My username is Looney *embarrassed*

Quote from pb32000 :You can't reasonably expect to insure anything above a ~75bhp car. It just doesn't work.

My car has over 100bhp

A lot of people have been very silly here in this thread

We'll see.
If I make it and you don't, then you owe me a tenner. As my car has done well over 200,000 miles

Engine is still as healthy than ever before.

Anyway, back to Jack...

Any joy with those links I supplied Jack?

I seriously think your best bet is a Post 2000 Fiesta or Corsa.

Fiesta.
Corsa.

How much can you stretch to/borrow/rob? & How much is your 'Ped worth?

Things may be different in Holland mate. Over here, insurance is very expensive. Also, judging by those cars, I'm sure the required spec was to "Get me from A-to-B" I'm sure he doesnt want place B to be his grave.

Quote from harjun :i just was correcting the guy....

I liked jatko's suggestion of an MX5...quite a nice sporty car too...but you wont get much in the boot

Just shut up.

Here is the CHEAPEST MX5 I can find. To insure it would be way out of his price range. Its rough. It needs a new roof. It needs an MOT. Its for hairdressers. Tristan owns one. - Enough reasons?

Jack, see my above post.

Edit:

You can still get the newest shape Fiesta for around the £1000-£1500 mark...

Example - OK, its sold. But they are a few more around the same price that are not sold, they just had rather no pictures, or crap pictures.

See my edit Jack. But to be honest, I would go for the Corsa, unless you can find a top spec, small engined Fiesta.

If you do down the Corsa route, I would go for the Corsa "C" as the easrly Corsa's have been molested by tw@'s. I dont know how much your Ped is worth, or how much you can earn till you pass, but a small engined Corsa C is available from £1250-£1500.

Example

Quote from R34GTR :The main problem with Escorts is...

...They are made by Ford

I personally, would steer clear of Fords.

If he did go for a Ford, I would suggest a Mark 4 or 5 Fiesta.

Edit:

On the subject of Fiesta's...

"R" Reg Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.4 - £800
"P" Reg Ford Fiesta Chicane 1.4 - £900 - Been owned by a chav a little rough around the edges, but perfect for a first car.

Quote from Jakg :Would kill for Looney's 316 though!

As your a 'friend' I'll let it go to you for a grand.

IIRC, mine is insurance group 10.

Mine is really cheap(ish) to insure as I practically live in the safest place in the whole world. An EX-- postcode is considered the safest by insurers.

I will probably sound like a broken record, with all the rest saying the same, but your car choice is Fiesta/Corsa/306/206, most small-ish cars really. If you know where to look, then you can always buy decent cars at a really low price.

The whole "Proton Vs. Sell up for a better car" is a no brainer in my opinion. Sell the Proton for sure. It will depreciate a lot quicker than most cars on the market and, lets face it, its a Proton.
